A moth pheromone trap

This trap can be used to detect the presence of processionary caterpillars and limit infestations.
Sex pheromones are produced by the female caterpillars to attract males for the reproduction of the species.

This pheromone capsule, thaumetopoea pityocampa, attracts male moths and captures them in the trap preventing them from finding their mates and fertilizing the eggs.
Population levels will be effectively reduced by using the trap over 2 or 3 years.

Non-toxic and environmentally friendly

 

This trap can be used for several years.

Easy to use :

  1. Fill the bottom of the trap with of a mixture of water and washing up liquid : 2 to 3 cm of water and 3 to 4 drops of washing up liquid.
  2. Using gloves, place the pheromone capsule (do not open it) in the basket, close the plastic cap and insert the basket on the top of the trap.
  3. Assemble the bottom, the funnel, the fins and the roof to form the trap.

Trap location : Place the trap in the tree canopy at 2 to 3m high.

Number of traps : 1 trap per isolated grove of trees or 6 to 8 traps per hectare.

Renewal of the pheromones : life span of about six months depending on weather conditions.

Traps should be installed before moth emergence.
